Adventures across the 3rd dimension

Today's painting efforts were appalling.
So I had another go at sculpting in Blender.
Got a bit further this time...

Yeah, it's still lumpy. And doing closed eyes is a bit of a cop-out. But I did save this one rather than deleting it from all existence. :)

I still have only managed what will possibly be an old piece of cloth hanging on a wall. I just don't get the sculpting tools, they seem so inaccurate....
I guess I ought to watch some (loooong and boorinng) videos.... :S

Or short speeded up up ones where the guy doesn't take a breath between words...

Lots of spheres....
(but I have no idea which tools he used)

"I'll adjust the shaders for the final touch."

Yep, that one second alone is three hours of node hassle ending in confused, frustrated failure. :eyeroll:

Personally I'd rather watch a long video that takes it's time to explain things properly than a short video that spews up a load of stuff at high speed and misses out important information. Quick clip stuff is fine if it's covering one simple tool that doesn't require a lot of waffle (mmm... waffles) or something, but anything more than that they become pretty useless.

Longer videos are obviously better for explaining/learning but I do find the shorter ones to be very inspirational. It's always those types of videos that encourage me to have a go again after all my failures. But one thing I've noticed in a lot of 3D videos is the way that people re-use things that they've already made for a previous piece. Whether it's pre-made eyes, hands, a different mesh with neater topology or those dreaded skin shaders.

I think I should probably start trying to make these intermediate, re-usable things but that seems to require some kind of planning and patience and I'm not good with that. :P

Lumpy man got some lumpy eyes and half a lumpy body that's a bit too small for him...

Yeah, forget about those hands. I certainly have.
I didn't even make a start on them but I can already tell that they're no easier in 3D. :(

That's still one hell of a lot better than I have any clue how to do. :)

EDIT: I made mushrooms yesterday. :aha:
