I was trying to do this one quickly and it went a bit more "contrasty" and harsh than I intended. :S

Still quite nice. Reminds me of the Marta's wedding "challenge" back in the IFX days :P

I've just trawled through some old folders to take a look at that pic. Eeew!
Those were the bad old days when I did that awful "Colour Layer over Greyscale" technique.
What was I thinking?

Thankfully I've now learned lots of new and different mistakes to do instead. :P

A quick, loose thing done while installing video games. :)

Bird.

I did record a script/video for this but something went a bit wrong when I created a new custom brush for the feathers. When I tried to play it back for the recording it couldn't find the "new" brush and had a bit of a tantrum. I've just spent 90 minutes trawling through all that code trying to fix it but to no avail. :(

Memo to self: Don't create custom brushes while recording.

EDIT: And after much headache-inducing faffing about I've finally sorted it out. :eyeroll:

Nice image... We had quite a few Parakeets growing up, as well as Cockatiels. My Mom enjoyed them being around. I actually had a Double Yellow-naped Amazon myself, but that was years ago.

I get sketchy around pencils! ...=D

Is the bokeh effect in the background a brush or a filter?

'Tis a brush.
I made a custom brush that scatters hexagons around just to do this effect.
I paint them on a separate layer in a pure cyan colour. Duplicate that layer and do a colour adjustment on the new layer to shift the cyan to red. (50% on the hue slider.) Then I offset the top layer by a few pixels so that they no longer align to create the bit of chromatic aberration. Set both layers to "Screen", merge them and blur!

That wasn't the brush I had problems with though. I tried to make a feathery brush and forgot to save it. I've been experimenting a bit more with the custom brush tool recently by using downloaded ZBrush alphas as brush heads/grains. They can be quite effective and easy to use.
When you remember to save them. :)
