Another thing.

With the making of the thing.

I think this one went a bit skewed, I was trying to push the structure a bit towards a caricature and it only half worked. Literally so.

Help I made a start on this last night but I keep getting a strong feeling that I've seen it before.
Anyone know of a similar image that I could be thinking of that I might have see ?
Hope you don't mind me dropping this in here by the way.

Before noticing the sword it made me think of the Lady of Shalott, though she's sitting in every pic I've seen. Looking for Lady of the lake, there's plenty of similar poses, but not in a boat. So, it probably just reminds you of various pics?

I've had that feeling before as well. Like "this is THE version of that subject" *googles* "Oh, apparently not. Nobody did it like THAT before." :p

I’m committing to drawing everyday in February for an hour and a half. My speed is pretty awful when it comes to completing work so thought it might help to set myself a time limit.
For the rest of January I’m going to try to improve my speed by doing a number of studies. Here’s the first one. C&C valued and if you guys have any tips for me I’d love it.

Oaktree: It doesn't look familiar to me but that doesn't stop it looking great! And feel free to drop anything in here.
Whenever I get that familiar feeling it's usually the case that I've painted that same picture before. I do tend to repeat myself too much.

Atto: Excellent stuff. Wonderfully expressive hands, as always, also it's impressive the way that you've got a clearly understandable facial expression despite the fact that most of the face is covered!

Meanwhile I ended up with two today. No videos though. :(
Both pictures went wrong and I ended up abandoning them before coming back to them later after giving myself a break. At least I didn't delete them.

I have given myself a headache though so I'll just watch some TV then tootle off to bed.

Val, they’re both great but I especially like the second one! Great palette, beautifully rendered and the background is awesome.
Very jealous of that lighting on the hair too.

I think they both ended up fine, val :)

Atto, one thing that seems to be in most your skin tones is all "similar" colours... I think the skin would look more "alive" if you tried that mandatory IFX tip of using complimentary colours for light and shade (or, just cool shade, warm light or vice versa). But then again, we all have our own styles, as well. So I'm not sure how far you'd want to take the colourfulness :)

Thanks Charlotte. Colour theory is something I’m hoping to improve with these, mostly because I’m shockingly bad at it. May try on the next one if I can find a good example of it.
Here’s today’s sketch.
I spent a little more time on this one because after 1 1/2 hours it was still at that messy stage.

P.S. I hope you don’t mind me hijacking the thread people.

That's not my definition of messy, Atto.
My stuff never has those clean edges no matter how many hours I spend on them. :)

And this thread was made for hijacking!
