I know what you mean, I may have emphasised that a little though it wasn't my intention....

I think the two aspects of the background (the circles AND the shadow) seem to work against each other. The floaty circles imply that there's some depth and distance there, but the shadow suggests there's some kind of wall or plane directly behind her. Either one of the options would work well on its own.
The figure is fantastic though with a lovely pose and expression full of attitude and personality.
