Because you use harder edges than I do when shading. I feel my work tend to end up a bit too smoothly blended so working towards your style should be beneficial :)

Understood, can I still feel flattered though?

New WIP, still needs a lot of work and a little readjustment around the face but I thought the ref. was cool and the pose is kind of that classical theme I want for my Pandora entry.

She posts on Reddit too and I was tempted to do one from that photoset but there were too many hands on show. :P

And I certainly wouldn't have painted it as well as that. Lovely clean details on that face.

You're allowed :)
and I like that! Both the ref and your result. Personally I'd probably leave out the seams in the fabric as I'm guessing she's using a bed cover or something and if it was a blanket or cloak any seams would end up elsewhere, but other than that: Lovely face/expression and it seems even more pronounced in your image, Atto :)

I should be playing Ark now but this painting went wrong the first time and I really wanted to try to make it work a second time...

And yes, that is apparently one of those magic mirrors that completely change the structure of the face.

That’s a really good point Charlotte, I’ll definitely leave out the seams and I’m thinking that a cream/white edging to the cloth may help with the more traditional look I want.
I’ve got one of those mirrors Val. Mine makes it look like I’ve got less hair and a larger bald spot than I know I actually have ( cue slightly later than mid-life crisis). That’s a beautiful colour palette though.

I tried another traditional painting yesterday. I’m really unhappy with it but I’m gonna try another one over the next few days. If that doesn’t work out I may just abandon the whole hairy sticks thing and stick to pixels.

Don't be unhappy, that looks great.
I'm impressed that you manage to retain your style in different mediums. My traditional stuff looks vastly different to digital efforts (to my eye at least.) Perhaps that's cos I have to actually do a drawing under the paint instead of the way I just dive in digitally. :)

em... posted this (or shared?) on Facebook; As an alternative to Inktober there is now comictober. Put together by Matt Schuler. (Inktober still sounds better, though, doesn't it?)
