Crow's nest of things and stuff

I guess I'll start off the Sketchbooks then :)

First off, some of my photo gesture/figure studies from the past few months. I've been trying to keep an average of 30 mins a day since I started a couple of months back. I think I'm still on target, at least I should be once I've done an hour today to catch up :)

Woohoo! The new forum is progressing :) Congrats on starting the first Sketchbook! And all those gestures, it's impressive to see. What resources do you use for gesture references? I know we had a couple linked at the old forum but I can't recall their names, I should probably go pilfer those before that forum is shut down!

Now some things that I'm currently working on. These are for an FB group setting different tasks each week. This week was to design a Magic the Gathering Red Creature card.

This one isn't too far off now but the following still has a fair way to go.

Currently I'm using quickposes , they seem to have a very large selection of images and I think they work on some sort of daily changeover system as well so the selection alters daily which reduces the number of duplicates you get if you only do 1 session a day, though it does mean you start to get the same ones over again if you work on the same category a few times a day.

The other one that I used initially was pixelovely but I found their selection was a little small especially for men. That said they did have a nice optional time system called Class Mode that started with 30 second gestures and then worked up longer and longer depending on how long of a session you wanted.

Pixelovely was among the ones I knew of (just didn't recall the name) but the other one is new for me. Will check it out! :)

Awesome start :) That is a terrifyingly huge amount of figure/gesture drawings haha

Just remember that just because you do thousands of figure/gesture drawings doesn't mean you will magically be able to draw the human figure well afterwards. For every few figures or gestures you should do at least one of your own poses from imagination. I can't really critique you on that too much just because I haven't really seen much imagination work but just keep it in mind.

Also is there a particular reason you can only do 30 minutes of drawing a day? That seems like a very small amount of time even for someone with say a fulltime job/family.

It is 30 minutes of gesture drawing not 30 mins total of everything but still I should be upping my intensity really. Especially since I'm not in Uni at the moment, which was the main reason I kept it to only 30 mins of Gesture. Normally I do spend most of the day on Photoshop but at the moment I'm struggling to get images from the midway stage to a final rendered piece. I think colour is probably one of my biggest pitfalls at the moment, which means I really should be doing more studies.. It's something I've done very little of in the past but now is the time to start upping the effort I guess.

I've been following your sketchbook on the ImagineFX forums for a while and it's a real testament to the improvement you can make by putting in the effort to do regular studies.

I'll definitely give interspersed imagination gestures a go. Sounds like a good idea.

Something that I started a while ago and have been working on in bits for far too long. It could really do with a lot more finishing but I think I'll call this one done and put the improvements into the next one since the core design would really need redoing to make it really work. Perhaps a Version 2.0 will be something to consider for the future..

Fantastic start crow. Uh...did you ever count the number of figures? Can you. Curious. :p
