I've become a fan of Michael Malm's sense of light .

Benjamin Zhang Bin's ability to create subtle beauty from lurid colours is always inspiring

Not the kind of thing I usually go for but some of John Harris' work that I admire. His sense of scale and space inspires me to try some environments.

Love those backlit Michael Malm pics!

Those vivid ones almost hurt my eyes. :)
I suddenly want to turn them into greyscale images to compare them and see if they have the same impact.
It must take so much skill and confidence to control that kind of thing.

The sense of scale in that second environment pic is really impressive. Also that vertical dropoff of the wall is very unusual yet effective, especially with that bit of smoke and its shadow.

Indeed. Seems he specialises in a bit of reality fading away so maybe he feels the same ;)
I've seen those images elsewhere - probably visited his website or something at some point? Can't recall when or where though...

Just seen this post on Muddy Colors featuring some lovely Dune portraits by Greg Ruth.
There's also a link there to more on his website but mobile browsers don't like that flashy stuff so this link will have to do. :)

Good stuff Val thanks. I would also love to produce a series of works based on the Dune novels but as Greg states it seems a monumental challenge to do justice to such a beautifully imagined work. It's one I've put on the back burners (along with a series based on The Malazan Books of the Fallen) until I am a LOT more competent.
