Is there a reason a British novelist would be better known somewhere other than Britain? :hmm:

uhm well I've only been there once and it was ages ago... Studying geology on an island in Oslo. But I guess "The Witches" is why I thought he was Norwegian. I also remember another book about witches where one of them was "too nice" and accidentally made flowers appear everywhere, and one accidentally turned herself into a table, I think... I thought that was Dahl, too, but maybe it wasn't

And then there was the book about a girl who lived under a tree? Uh... anyway she knew a turtle who's shell she fixed using a piece of metal from a can. And all her animal friends were really humans under a spell? Or I'm remembering it all wrong :P I have no idea who the author of this story was, though...

Add a couple of dinosaurs and it sounds like one of those dreams you have. :P

 well maybe that explains why I have those dreams in the first place!?

And my dreams are nowhere near as odd as the movie I'm watching. "Inherent Vice" - lots of names I recognize, like Joaquin Phoenix, Benicio del Toro, that guy with the arm in the latest Deadpool movie (Brolin?), Reese Witherspoon... I think it's the 70ies or late 60ies, Phoenix is some sort of junkie PI called Doc, and I think he's got like a med clinic as a front? Why does a PI need a front? Anyway he's constantly high, and I'm not sure whether anything in the movie is actually happening or if it's all one long dream of his... Oh and the narrator is a woman with a childish voice and an interest in astrology...

I've only read one Thomas Pynchon novel and it didn't make me want to read another, nor to see a film adapted from one. I find the style (which may or may not be called Hysterical Realism) to be overwhelmingly irritating in its dense and overcontrived way.
Which is an equally overcontrived way of saying that I haven't seen that film but I can imagine it all too well. :)
