I've actually just upgraded to version 5 and I wondered why it was so cheap! I thought they'd made a mistake and I wasn't going to tell them. :P

So far I'm liking the custom brush tool, the Particle (Pores) brush is great for adding texture to skin and I quite like the Faint Crackle too (used them both in a recent scribble portrait.)
Two minor gripes are the inability to scale the interface (at my monitor resolution it now looks like a large print book for old people going blind!) and they've also removed the option to paint on the canvas whilst it's temporarily flipped.
I spent some time on the forums researching that last one and apparently it wasn't supposed to be a feature in previous versions, it was just a bug that everyone liked!
Bring back the useful bug! :)

I never noticed or used anything of the things you just mentioned...
There's a particle brush? Faint crackle?

They're just some of the Presets for the custom brush tool. The icon for it doesn't look that different from the Oil Brush so it's easy to miss it in the tool box, but it's a fun thing to play with and much easier to use than the sticker sets.

oh that one. Well, I've played with it, but I guess I found it hard to get or something... It's been a while since I tried, I forgot what it was for...

Well now I think I broke my pen entirely...

and now it's definitely broke. And new pens are pricey...

I seem to have only used that custom brush tool to make (try to make) my own brushes... But I'm also guessing a lot of the stuff I now found under there is new in this version, maybe? I just updated to the latest version (5.0.8 I think?) yesterday (from 5.0.6 - not sure where 7 went to).

But I agree, some of those texture brushes seem great! :)

They're even better with a working pen! :P

I have noticed that some of them can be very subtle due to the way they "pick up" and blend colour so it's worth going into the Brush Designer to tweak that setting.
There's a shaggy hair one too (not sure if that's its name?) that looks like it'll be great for pet portraits!
