Fair enough, just seemed familiar.

What about, instead of doing a weekly competitive challenge, doing something like a weekly practice theme? Posting something new each week for people to sketch/study/practice/whatever they feel like doing? Not judged or voted on to take away a lot of the work for mods, just a weekly topic for people to dump themed sketching.

Just a thought. :)

That's a really good idea Rebecca, maybe a photo of an object, like a still life study?

Just would need a thread setting up called 'Week 1 Study' something simple like that?

I love the idea of a weekly study with constructive crits. Voting isn't necessary for me personally, is just nice to have a challenge.

I've never felt like I couldn't join the challenges because I wouldn't get voted for, I've never expected to win! Does this stop you posting images on the site?

Nah. Not at all. I used to do a lot of the challenges. There were a number of other things (and tiny people) that kept me from participating.
But I will say that I didn't do much with the challenges in the last few years because I knew I wouldn't be able to put together a finished project.

Yeah, but the whole idea of the challenges themselves were to learn and challenge yourself and basically have fun. ... Heck, most of the challenges I joined in on, I didn't even get any votes, but I still enjoyed participating.

And yes, sadly, there were some individuals who were only out to win and have their images put in the mag, and did things to help ensure this. Other times it seemed some of the voting was based more on popularity, then the actual image that was submitted. I always felt bad for artist who produced a beautiful image, but didn't get the credit they deserved. ... But anyway, hopefully the challenges here will be more about having fun, learning, etc. as it should be, since there isn't a prize to be won so to speak. :)

I completely agree. For me it was an honor to get just one vote or even a polite mention. There were pros and cons to having images in the magazine, but when I was able to participate, I got more from the feedback on the wip section than anywhere else.

As for monthly suggestions (an attempt to get the thread back on track for the moderators ;) ) I think it would be cool to put together a comic book page given a topic or quick script.

Absolutely. I also learned from watching others' pics come together, as well as when they described their processes. :)

To help with staying with the topic as well, someone mentioned earlier about creating a site mascot/creature. That I think could be loads of fun. (I really like critter/creature designing. :) )
