They denied an MRI? Not to pry, but is the condition she may have serious? I am shocked they would deny that, how dreadful. Thank you.
No worries Madi, I will try to explain below.
*is happy the Swedish system doesn't work that way even if the Swedish system doesn't always work too well either*
If the doctor orders it, we get it. Though if it's a VERY pricey treatment there might be issues...
Same here to a degree Charlotte, and they are quite expensive. She has actually had about 8 of these done in the past, but that was within the time span of around 18 years. And it's her back history that I think they are using against her now to deny the it. Again, I hope the information below might explain it better.
First, I will apologize up front for a possibly long post. Hard to understand without knowing some of the history. But will make it as short as possible.
She has two issues she's dealing with right now, one is loosing grip in her hands, and then another issue with her legs loosing strength. - For example, she recently dropped a medium sized jar of spaghetti sauce while trying to move it to the conveyor belt at the grocery store, which exploded on the floor between checkout isles. Said even though everyone there was very kind and understanding, she was so embarrassed and felt like a complete idiot. But said her hand just simple lost all strength and she couldn't hold onto it. - As for her leg issues, she's been having problems (mostly when using the stairs) with one of her legs simply going out and not being to put any weight on it. Says it takes her a moment or two before she can once again slowly put weigh on it. But when it happens, it's without warning, which if she is not holding on to the railing, could cause her to take a bad fall.
But you have to understand she has a history of issues that's been on-going since an accident she sustained back in 1996. (this is where the denial of the MRI seems to be originating from) ... Her doctor (our neighbor who resides just 4 houses from us) has requested the MRI on 3 or 4 occasions in the past year or so. But our provider has been denying the claim, saying the issues are probably related to her past injury and are requesting she go back into physical therapy for something like 3-6 months, so a full evaluation of treatments can be determined. ... The accident that she was involved in, was when a 300 lb. rolling cart at her work (about 8 feet tall) fell over and struck her. She was kneeling down moving some products on a lower shelf, and say she saw it falling toward at the last minute and was able to turn her head away, but her neck, back and right shoulder took the brunt of the impact. She immediately started having issues, with multiple muscle spasms throughout her back and neck, and ended up being in both physical therapy and pain management for the next 18 months. The company of course fought us on ever step, trying to say there was nothing wrong with her (per their company doctors evaluations), while the doctors she was seeing for therapy/pain management were actually giving her a 85% disability rating. But she ended up having a bulging disc in her neck that erupted, and put her the hospital to have surgery. They took a bone segment from her hip to fuse the C-5/C-6 disc on her neck, and installed a titanium plate with 4 screws to help stabilize this area. Afterwards the company finally agreed there were indeed issues, but still tried to do little to nothing for her. But the courts we ended up in, agreed with us, and made them liable for medical bills associated with the incident. ... But basically, she's been told by doctors that there are some pain issues they she will have to unfortunately have to learn to deal with, since there isn't much they can do. They tried nerve blocks, and other things that per my wife, hurt way worse then the pain she was dealing with. She has also been back in therapy a few times over the years, but said it doesn't seem to do anything for her. (And at times, was costing my around $500 a month in just co-payments, so you can see her reluctance to try it again now. - Along with all this, she is also on blood thinners for the rest of her life. She's been hospitalized on 3 separate occasions with massive blood-clotting on her lungs, and has been told she is extremely lucky just to still be here.
Well, that's most of it anyway and I did try to keep it short as I possible could.
To say the least, we've been through a lot with all this medical stuff, so this recent denial is nothing we haven't had to deal with before. ... I just feel bad for her having to deal with so much crap, and she's only 46. But we've been together for 31 of those years, so yeah, don't do the math!
