Aaaarrrghh! (computer issues)

24 Aug 2017 09:47 #17772 by Charlotte
So I've been annoyed with my computer constantly telling me it needs to charge the battery and I should plug it in. It IS plugged in. Constantly. Well, today it decided to go a couple of steps further. It admitted to being plugged in, and claimed to be charging at 25%. It still does, hours later. But the BAD thing is it seems to have amnesia. It's forgotten all about my second monitor and refuses to find it. Does anyone have a clue what to do? I've tried updating some drivers but I'm not really sure which one should be updated. The computer seems to have lost connection entirely with the external monitor and yes I've checked all the cables and I've tried turning it on/off etc as well as restarting the laptop.

There is a "project to this PC" function, which has the option of projecting to another monitor or even both monitors but nothing happens when I try to change that, probably again because it can't find the monitor hardware...

:argh:

Luckily Lenovo have only ever made one laptop... oh, wait

Was there a Windows update installed since it last worked, or have you installed something?

I don't think there were any updates yesterday, but I did install a game... which worked fine yesterday. On the other screen. :(

And it says "Y700" on this thing so I guess that's the model.

And now I've looked at apps and features by date and it seems there are several that were updated today and yesterday (judging by date - I don't know if I use any of them, that is, some might be "background" thingies...)

As it worked yesterday, I would probably try a system restore before doing anything else.

I don't like the words system restore... don't they wipe everything? :dumb:

It should just roll back the system to the last restore point that was created when it installed stuff.

but I'm not sure when that was... ? and it installed updated drivers today, so... wouldn't that be a point after the problem started? If there even was a restore point created. I never quite got the hang of that stuff...
