How very useful

Yep, everything's useful except me and my lack of motivation. :P

But I did manage to motivate myself to start scribbling here.
My first thought for this was to do Victorian engineer showing off a big steam powered Iron Man suit. I ended up sketching it out like those old photos of the Industrial Revolution, which probably doesn't fit the portrait brief but until (unless!) I have another idea it will have to do...

If it progresses I'll end up tinting and staining it to look old but a bit more work will have to be done before that.

Charlotte: That looks pretty damn good already. I really like the face, and the clothing has lovely natural folds and details. And there are hands too! :)

Looks like you already came quite a bit with yours Val.
And yes, mine has hands. Currently trying to make a neat line drawing out of the messy sketch. I think I'll try to go for a comic booky look, though I'm not entirely certain yet.

EDIT: WIP2

As far as I'm getting with linework tonight. Now bedtime

and wip 3, now with both hands and feet.

(I'm still considering giving her some hair down her shoulder but I haven't managed to make that look right, yet.)

That's some smooth linework there, Charlotte, very clean and crisp.
And the face looks even better now, the expression has alovely sense of personality and character.
Can't wait for some colour.

That's ArtRage's inking pen for you! ;)

I'm not settled on the colours yet but here are some flat ones. I realised I hadn't even finished the lines for eyeborws and mouth before colouring. Oops. And besides settling for colours there's lighting and shading of course (and I haven quite deiced on that yet, because I haven't quite decided on a background yet...)

But anyway, WIP 4

That's looking good, Charlotte. I would have thought you made it in Manga Studio. ... One crit, I believe you have her legs somewhat offset/too far to our right. Draw a line up her legs and it should show itself. Makes her belly look to jump out front before heading upward.

Looking good Valence, look forward to seeing it progress.

I get sketchy around pencils! ...=D

I am considering moving her legs forward but I also wanted to mimic that look in victorian images... although I might have exaggerated it a bit much...

I agree on the look you were going for, and it fits this image well. But as you say, you may have exaggerated it just a little too much.

Girl you outdone yourself with this one, looking good.

i get it that you wanted to get the frame mesh dress thing going on, but because this is a good piece you should fix it , her center of gravity is way too forward she´s almost doing the Michael jackson´s smooth criminal move.

also, her jaw is too short , should almost be the same height as the top of the brow to the bottom of the nose. The Nose will be better if it is more petite.

her lower body is dwarfed , stretch those legs some more.

other than that is really good and clean, this is portfolio stuff.
